DESIGN BRIEF: Create a jersey design that celebrates the natural beauty of the Mackay region: show connection that our BMA River 2 Reef Ride has to rivers, reefs and community.
Design 1: Together Where Cane Meets Coral
ARTIST STATEMENT: My Design is inspired by the beauty and diverse landscapes of Mackay.
Mackay - Where community seek connection, not only to others but also nature. Where people including our cyclists seek adventure and get immersed in local beauty. Inspired by the stunning Mackay sunrise, representing a 5:30am event start.
Sugar cane symbolises the “Sugar City” and 2 riders symbolising mateship and community.
The palette inspired by Mackay and also sponsor BMA.
I have taken inspiration from Mackay Harbour. The lighthouse represents where land meets reef, also symbolising “lighting the way” in unity to raise funds for charity in community spirit.
Design 2: The Tropics
ARTIST STATEMENT: This artwork is inspired by the diverse tropical flowers and plants that can be found around Mackay and the Whitsundays. Each different flower is bright and colourful creating a nice contrast between the dark and light blue background.
The colour palette is inspired by the river to reef logo making this jersey a perfect fit for this years river to reef bicycle ride. This design will provide the participants with a bright and colourful top that will make them stand out and will look incredible in photos and advertising.
Design 3: River 2 Reef
ARTIST STATEMENT: I wanted to draw leaves that are usually seen within a river “setting” as well as having some coral on the back for the whole name of the event (river to reef). when creating this design I thought of the safety of the riders using the “hi viz” incorporating bright neon colours.
